How Did the Serbian Student Movement Beat Vučić’s Authoritarianism?

What began as protests demanding justice after the deadly Novi Sad railway station collapse in November 2024 grew into a nationwide movement challenging Aleksandar Vučić’s grip on power. Through decentralised organising, mass mobilisation and remarkable solidarity across generations, Serbian students turned public outrage into a political force and ultimately defeated Vučić at the ballot box. Bojan Terzic will explore how the movement emerged, organised and overcame an entrenched political system. What can we learn from its success, and what comes next for Serbia? The talk will be followed by an open discussion and Q&A.
