Determining the MAC address (hardware address) under MAC OS X

The MAC address (hardware or physical address) that has been correctly determined and entered in the portal is a mandatory prerequisite for successful access to the university network (WLAN or/and dormitory). How to determine the MAC address under MAC OS X is described below.

1. Open the System Preferences via the icon in the Dock or in the Finder under the item 'Applications' (if this icon is not visible there, please refer to the manual, use the Mac OS X help, or ask the support hotline of the manufacturer/vendor).

2. Open the 'Network' item.

 3. Select 'Ethernet' (not Airport(!)).

4. Here you will find the MAC address of the Ethernet adapter. With this MAC address (Airport-ID) you now create a new device in the university portal (log in using your university account) under the menu item dormitory.

A little example:

The following example shows how to read the hardware Mac address on your Apple computer:

Please note: Once you watch the video, data will be transmitted to Youtube/Google. For more information, see Google Privacy.

After successful activation (recognizable by the green symbol) you will receive an e-mail to your university e-mail account - now your device should have a WWW connection :-)

5. Click on the 'Airport' icon in the menu bar and select 'Other'.

 6. Add them designation 'FULAN' as the network name and select the protection mechanism 'WEP password'.

7. Paste the network key from the e-mail into the Password field and confirm with OK. If you are currently within range of a WLAN access point, the WLAN connection is now established.
