Determination of the MAC address (hardware address) under Microsoft WINDOWS® 7, 8 and 10

The MAC address (hardware or physical address) that has been correctly determined and entered in the portal is a mandatory prerequisite for successful access to the university network (WLAN or/and dormitory). How to determine the MAC address under Windows 7, 8 and 10 is described below.

Windows 7

Click on 'Start' and in the search field (or in 'Run') enter 'cmd' and 'OK'.

Windows 8

Click on the search box, enter 'cmd' here and 'OK'.

Windows 10

Either open 'Call' (Windows icon in the taskbar) and simply type 'cmd' or enter 'cmd' in the search bar, then confirm with 'Enter'.

Now an input window appears. Here enter 'getmac /v' in the command line.

  • For the WLAN/radio network you need (keyword: wireless network): 00-91-17-18-17
  • For the dormitory network you need (keyword: LAN connection): 00-34-56-78-90-12

Do not mix up these specifications, otherwise your connection will not work!

For older base versions it may be necessary to enter 'ipconfig -all' or just '/all' in the command line.

  • For the WLAN/radio network you need the 'Ethernet adapter wireless network connection', so here would be correct the: 00-12-34-56-78-90
  • For the dormitory network you need the 'Ethernet adapter LAN connection', so here would be correct: 00-34-56-78-90-12

Do not mix up these specifications or your connection will not work!
