Service market for first-year students
A lot has to be organised when you start your studies. Here you will find information and offers to help you arrive at the university and in the city of Neubrandenburg. Our service market will take place on 1 October 2025 from 13:00 to 15:00 in the foyer of House 1.
For example, Stadtwerke will be providing information about their fast fitflat internet and offering a student discount, among other things. Health insurance companies and sports clubs will be presenting themselves. There is also information on housing and various leisure activities.
You can visit our Digi-Servicemarkt here at any time.
Re-register and receive welcome money
We recommend that you re-register your main place of residence in Neubrandenburg. The city of Neubrandenburg pays a welcome allowance (maximum 150.00 euros) to students of our university who register here for the first time at the beginning of their studies as their main place of residence. You can access the online service for making appointments here: https: //www.neubrandenburg.de/Politik-Verwaltung/Onlineservice
What to bring: valid identity card or passport and landlord's confirmation of residence (issued by the landlord)

Residence premium for the main residence NEUBRANDENBURG
Why are we promoting Neubrandenburg as your main place of residence? If you, dear students who previously lived outside of our federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, decide to choose our city of Neubrandenburg as your main place of residence, you and our university will benefit as soon as more than half of these newly enrolled students re-register. This is because the state will pay out a residence bonus of 1,000 euros for each additional student who re-registers. We can invest this residence bonus in tutorials, books, equipment, excursions, etc. Part of the residence bonus goes towards studying and teaching, 20 per cent goes to the AStA.
Student assistant or research assistant - jobs at our university
What is a student/research assistant? This refers to employees at German universities who provide support services in research and teaching and related administrative activities. Employment is contractually agreed per semester.
According to the State Higher Education Act, the following applies: "Prerequisite for employment as a research assistant (WHK) is a completed university degree". "As a student assistant (SHK) can be employed if you are enrolled in a degree programme that leads to a first or further professional qualification."
What are the pay rates (as of 01.03.2025)? 14.59 €/h (WHK) and 13.98 €/h (SHK)
How can I become a student assistant? In most cases, students are made aware of employment as a student assistant by the professors in lectures or through notices. However, other structural units such as the University Library, the ZIMT, the Marketing and Communication Department or the International Office also have a need for student and academic assistants.
How do I submit the application? The application with the student's details is submitted by those responsible for the department or structural unit (professors or heads of the unit). The necessary forms can be downloaded from the portal https://portal.hs-nb.de/: Forms online/2.9 student/research assistants/Applicationfor employment of a student/research assistant
Further processing will then be carried out by the respective responsible person in Department II (Building I).
Contact for applications and support: If you have any questions about legalities, e.g. maximum additional income for Bafög or the required documents, such as income tax card and proof of health insurance, our students can contact the staff member in Department II-Finances, Ms Ryll, or the secretariat of the respective department.
BAföG can always be applied for!
Dear students, apply for BAföG now! From winter semester 2024/2025, the new law will come into force and bring many advantages!
More information on the changes brought about by the new law at: https://www.bmbf.de/de/bafoeg-reform-welche-aenderungen-sind-geplant-7319.html
All application forms at: https://studwerk.hochschule-stralsund.de/bafoeg/downloads-antraege/
BAföG can always be applied for, even if the semester has already started. The money is paid retroactively up to the month in which the application was submitted. As some students need some time to collect all the documents (especially those from their parents), an informal application can even be submitted to meet the deadline. This can be submitted within a very short time. Once this informal application has been received, the date of receipt counts. All other documents required for the complete application can then be submitted at a later date without any time pressure.
Grants
The Greifswald Student Union is responsible for processing applications from students of the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences for funding through BAföG grants. More information about the offers and services provided by the Student Union at the Neubrandenburg site.
