Development and recruitment of professorial staff
As part of the "ProfQuaNB" project, Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences offers graduates, doctoral candidates and those with practical experience the opportunity to gain the qualification for a university professorship through a doctorate and/or practical experience. The project is part of a federal and state programme for the qualification of university of applied sciences staff and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research1.
What are the routes to a university professorship?
In principle, there are several ways to qualify for the profession of university professor. On the one hand, a completed doctorate is required, on the other hand, at least five years of practical experience are required, of which at least three years must have been gained outside the university. The doctoral period can be recognised as professional experience within the university. In addition to the doctorate and practical experience, experience in the field of teaching, publications in relevant journals and networking in the respective subject area are desirable.
What does the qualification programme at Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences do?
For each of the four faculties of the university, a half-time position for academic collaboration is allocated within the programme, on which a doctorate is to be completed in accordance with the orientation of the faculty. The doctoral programme is cooperative, i.e. with initial supervision by a professor at a university. If practical experience is not yet available at the beginning of the doctorate, the university offers to arrange practical work placements to provide the necessary experience in the professional world during or after the doctorate. In addition, seminars and colloquia are held to provide qualifications in teaching, academic writing and structured academic work.
