The following information about your journey to Neubrandenburg, our pick-up service, enrolment, registration with the town administration and opening a bank account will help you out. 

Of course the International Office will help you with all these steps.

Neubrandenburg can be reached by train. Nearby airport is the Airport Berlin-Brandenburg (BER). You can find information about these airport here ...  

The train journey to Neubrandenburg is about two hours. The home page of Deutsche Bahn, the German railway service, has information about train and bus connections. The Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences is about 15 minutes’ walk from Neubrandenburg station.

Pick-up service

Pick-up from Neubrandenburg station will be organised for newly arrived international students. Please inform the International Office in advance of your arrival time. A student from the University will meet you at the station and take you to the University and to the residential college.

Enrolling

After your initial registration and greeting in the International Office, you will receive information about your next steps.

Opening hours:

There are currently no office hours.
 
In urgent cases, the clerks can still be reached by phone or email.

Documents needed:

  • Your health insurance policy certificate
  • 1 passport photo

You will be told when you can collect your student ID card, your FH card (in the same room). This card enables you to print out your certificate of enrolment, use the library and photocopiers and pay in the student cafeteria. 

Registering with the town administration

Registering with the town administration

It is mandatory in Germany to register at the registration office in the local town hall (Friedrich-Engels-Ring 53), and you should do this within the first two weeks as soon as you have signed a rental agreement. Please remember to notify the town hall of your departure at the end of your stay. 

The following documents will be needed: 

Residents’ Registration Office: 

  •  passport
  •  confirmation of enrolment at the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences
  •  rental agreement

The Residents’ Registration Office is in the Neubrandenburg town hall about 15 minutes’ walk from the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences.

Aliens´ Registration Office (Ausländerbehörde)

You register at the Aliens' Registration Office (Ausländerbehörde) with the certificate from the registration office. This is where students from non-EU countries apply for their residence permit for the duration of their study stay in Neubrandenburg. Students from EU countries receive their certificate of freedom of movement here.

After registering at the town hall, you report to the Aliens' Registration Office if you need to apply for a student visa. You will fill out the form and send it to the authority by email. You will receive an appointment by post for a personal interview with your case officer. 

Application for the issue or extension of a residence permit

You must have the following documents with you:

  • Confirmation of registration
  • Passport
  • Proof of health insurance (membership certificate - no health insurance card)
  • Current certificate of enrolment from Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences
  • Proof of financial security (blocked account, declaration of commitment, proof of salary, scholarship certificate or proof of financing)
  • 1 biometric passport photo

The Foreigners' Registration Office can be reached on foot in approx. 30 minutes. If necessary, please attend the personal appointment with your buddy.

Bank account

Bank account

We recommend that students who will be studying for more than one semester at the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences open a bank account in a German bank so that they can transfer funds for rent, health insurance, semester fees and so on. Most banks offer fee-free accounts for students. You can also withdraw money from ATMs using the debit card.

To open a bank account you need the following documents:

  • your passport,
  • your confirmation of registration, and
  • your student ID card.
