Health Sciences

Occupations in the field of health sciences and prevention have been affected by demographic changes, increased use of technology and the development of new diagnostic and treatment methods whilst new care theories and concepts have also been created. At the same time, new fields of work have emerged in prevention, the promotion of good health and health management, all of which require well-founded academic training. The Health Sciences course qualifies students in particular for jobs within public health sector institutions, employment at health and long-term care insurance companies, management positions at hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, old people’s homes and for management consultancy functions.

The mainpoints of focus the course of study are:

  • management and economics in the health system;
  • health-care and the promotion of good health;
  • health psychology and health education;
  • public health and epidemiology.

The Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences offers both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees.
The Master of Science qualification entitles students to study for a PhD, thus enabling them to gain access to higher civil service professions. Including the practical semester, the normal period of study for the Bachelor degree is six semesters. All teaching programmes are combined to form modules each comprising between four and six semester periods per week. Students sit a course-related examination in each module.
The Bachelor course concludes with a six-week Bachelor dissertation.
The four-semester Masters course in health sciences provides students with the opportunity to expand and extend the knowledge they have acquired during their first degree and qualifies them further in pursuit of a career in health sciences. The Masters course includes an academic research project which extends over three semesters and concludes with a six-month Masters thesis.

These courses have been accredited since 2002, thus assuring compliance with international quality requirements.
